Lava

A day trip today to The Valley of the Fires park. Its got lava flow features. Here's a portion of the path.

And some lava . . .

And more lava . . .

And a close and personal view of the path . . .

And finally a treat toward the end of our stay.

Good day overall. It was about a 2.5 hour drive to get there. We stopped for a picnic lunch along the way. Not to mention dinner on the return. Temperature was nice, but was a bit windy.

Tomorrow the plan is to finally setup mom's new tent camper. Will be at mom's place a bit after the noon hour. Should be another interesting day.

Pleased ???

I've got an Alltel cell phone and I got this letter in the mail last week:

Dear Mighty:

We are pleased to announce that Verizon Wireless has purchased Alltel and work is underway to combine the operations for the two companies.

Just how can Alltel be pleased about this! You folks just got bought out. I suppose this is just attempting to put a positive light on the situation and to make you feel great about going to Verizon.

Well, brother is getting better from his sickness. He went to the doctor for meds and missed a couple day's of work. Now mom is getting the crud. Boo!

Been watching Jay Leno's opening monologue on The Tonight Show. Got started on it Monday and Wednesday nights because I get home from the gym late those nights and I'm usually eating at that time. He's got a pretty funny section lately with the plug "The economy is so bad . . ." and off he goes.

The economy is so bad, teens in Beverly Hills are driving used cars.
The economy is so bad, women have switched to duck tape for waxes.
The economy is so bad, the Eveready Bunny keeled over dead!

Went to another Dirty Thirties Event last night - Happy Hour. Was fun. Went to bed late, got up late. .. .. OK, OK, 9:30! Late for me, early for others.

Well, time for a short nap and then off to the gym. I think I'll stick with cardio today. They got this new machine in that is like a bicycle, but for your arms. I snickered at it for a while, gave it a try the other day. WOW. I'm sold.

Difficult Mighty at the Helm

Post Highlights:
- Mighty is a difficult person.
- Mighty can not keep his story straight.
- No tent camper photo's.
- My brother's got GOT a job!
- Brother became ill.

Blogger Blog (Mighty):
Initial reports are that Mighty was simply making an effort to connect a FM receiver antenna purchased at Radio Shack last weekend when he contacted the store by telephone (land line) to request technical assistance. Complications arose with [an] apparent miss communication at the start of the conversation. The statement, "I purchased a FM receiver antenna for my FM receiver" was [apparently] received as "I purchased a FM receiver from your store." The store employee who assisted Mighty notes that Mighty was being a difficult customer with an attitude issue who changed his story repeatedly throughout the conversation. The employee hung up on Mighty once, but Mighty persisted with a return call in an effort to resolve the confrontation and find a solution to his technical question. At issue, information regarding the "ohm" rating of the purchased antenna. Mighty indicates that his receiver has two options for antenna hook-up - 75 ohm and 300 ohm. This specification was not written on the product package. The root of the question was resolved and an answer was provided by said salesman. Mighty was unable to thank employee for his time due to prompt hang-up by store person.

Practice setup and closing of new tent camper at the home of Mighty's parents was put on hold for the last two weekends. Reports from the families household was that the brother of Mighty LANDED a job! Family members indicate that brother is now working as a cashier at Wal-mart. Yes, good 'ol Wal-mart. In an interview with the brother, he indicated that working weekends is the rule not the occasional occurrence. So a postponement is planned until the family can have a practice run together. Literature from the tent camper manufacture indicates that the camper is easily setup by one person. The immediate Mighty family say they would like to do it together once so that all can participate in voicing difficulties, opinions and other thoughts of the setup process. "Learn from all not from one" they say. That joint setup was scheduled for this weekend, but at press time, it has been learned that the brother has become ill with the expectation that he will miss a couple of day's of work. Mighty has learned that the sickness mostly likely came from the previous seasonal job he had just started and worked at for one week. Brother has worked this seasonal job for several years and each year became sick just after starting. Once recovered, he was fine for the remaining duration of the seasonal work.

(sorry, I've been reading way to much CNN)

Accomplishments

Tonight's accomplishments: 1) Get the bills ready for the mail tomorrow, 2)) wash the damn dishes (what the hell, I just did them Tuesday and there's already a big pile), 3))) give C. a call in Seattle (no one home, but left a message), 4)))) get the car keychain fixed, 5))))) blog (well, here we are), 6)))))) figure out what the heck I'm going to try to accomplish tomorrow night - on a Friday?

Oh yeah!, RIGHT!, like Friday's are designed to accomplish something - go figure. Perhaps in non-Western society type places.

Mom's got a new tent camper. I pulled it home last weekend. She's got me lined up to come over Saturday to set it up in the driveway. Photo's to come. I'll probably be over there all day Saturday. Sunday is planned. Laundry and get the damn taxes finished.

Went and saw the movie "Wendy and Lucy" at the local Indie theater last night. Really enjoyed it. It is depressing. This movie is a no thrills, no Hollywood budget look at one persons happenings in the moment. No real plot (except that we know where she is headed). Check it out if you can handle a movie that is a snapshot of one weary persons travels.

On the next note, ever feel like you had so much stuff to do at work that you were just not up for doing anything? -ditto

Random

Here's a new photo. I look kind of smashed but really just tired. Been tired all day.

Went to bed a little late last night after going to the gym. Maybe that was it. At 4pm today, I swore the day was over. But alas, two more hours to go. Here's Koi fish from the Botanical Gardens.

Will have to end with the desert. I really like the desert. Mostly because you can see the wide open view. Plus, it's warm in the summer. Oh Yeah. I was surprised this Sunday morning. For some reason, all the morning news magazine type shows on television where talking about Obama's plan and the stock market. I wonder why. My mom had a large sum of money in the stocks as well. She's pulling out and will spend what little remains on a couple of big ticket long term wishes. I know she will enjoy them. I hope though she will be OK financially. She's only going to have SS to hold her up now. Been watching American Idol. OK. Feels like I over ate for supper. I'm sure I'll still be hungry in the morning. Ready for WATCHMAN? It looks like a really good flick. Will have to decide to see it full price or wait for the second run spot. It feels like the day's are just going to waste for some reason. Monday and Wednesday - gym after work, evenings gone. Tuesday and Thursday - come home to some chore, wash dishes or cook. Friday - open. Sat and Sunday - swing something with the family one of those day's.

Enough drab folks, tomorrow's Wednesday!!! Hump day baby! OK, Randy's got me going.

Speech

Let me join the masses in posting a post about Obama's speech tonight. Well it was a good feel good talk. All sorts of stuff about the good we as citizens can do. But . . . yes there's a but, but . . . I did not hear much about a specific plan. There were some mentions about things have have been done on a generalistic basis and some broad ideas about what might be done, but nothing concrete in my mind. Now mind you, I was knee deep in cooking dinner at the same time, so maybe I'm dreaming - maybe.

Two First

Well yesterday, I did two things I've been meaning to do for a long, long time. I've finally gotten myself back in the gym and I went to see an old friend I have not seen in about two years, much less hung out with for about three years.

Getting back into the gym is always tough. The tough part is getting the willpower to go back. But once you break the first time barrier, it is all down hill from there. It was a light workout. Just enough to get the body in motion again and to ask the body to remember those old motions. Get used to it. I little tight today, but otherwise in good shape. Will go again tomorrow.

The friend, whom I'll call F., is doing well. You know when you have not seen someone is a very long time, sometimes your first meeting is all about the basics. "How are you." "How's the family?" How's work, personal life, etc. And that's where we where. Discussed a few outside topics, but really, it was all about F. and Mighty touching base. Nice.

Date

So, anyways, I had this blind date with a person whom I met through a mutual friend. She was in her upper 40's, has recently moved here from Hawaii about two years ago, from which she lived for about 25 years. The term that comes to mind is - disconnected. Real nice gal, friendly, but sorta - out there. She took the time to correct my pronunciation of two words, one word of Hawaiian origin, and a Hispanic word. OK. Will I see her again? Perhaps to hang out.

So on that note, I've had a revelation on a relationships topic. That being that many relationships breakup because one or both of the party has found the other has become boring. Will Duh! So my revelation is this - just what makes a new person - interesting? Unboring.

With the new person, you are 1) hearing new stories different from those you know and 2) retelling many of the same fucking stories you have told countless times before. The difference? It is to a new person who 1) has not heard it before and 2) has attentive ears which can at a moments notice, introduce - new stories, which - promotes the both of you to possibly laugh your ass off.

So as time passes, the both of you tell your stories until - boring. And the cycle starts anew.

This though is not really a new revelation, it's just been a while since I thought of it.

Free Chair

Well it is 4:00 AM. Yes - 4 A.M. Have been up since 2 because I cannot sleep. Runny nose, cough, etc. So after putting away the rest of the stuff I dragged home from mom's place and watching The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (trust me, it was the only thing on at this hour of the day) on television, I think I'll share this treasure. Found this chair at the dumpster while I was waiting for the gang to get to my place last weekend. What people will throw away.

In great condition! The springs feel a little shot, but otherwise, just took a little cleaning. Dumpsters - what a great place.

There GONE

Well the relatives are gone. Left early this morning. Kind of feels good to get back to normacy. Did several nights of Bingo with them and, go figure, slot playing. I lost readily. The bingo dabber paint sticks we had were from the last time these same relatives visited. Unused and dried, we managed to get them working, but some were dieing by the end of last night. When will I play bingo again? Halley's comet comes to mind.

In the meantime, I managed to pick up some cold slash crud from some where. Kicked in Wednesday night. Today has been a lounge day with multiple naps. Expect the same for tomorrow.
