I spent this morning outside at the Petroglyph National Monument again. This time, just went by myself and had a nice time taking my time looking around the trail. Unlike the last time when I went with mom (see here), I could go as fast or slow as I wanted. I took a pair of binoculars to see if I could find any petroglyph's higher up the hill since the visitors center claims there are around 600 visible carvings in the rocks. I spotted 5. Hmmm. Granted, I may not have looked close enough and maybe did not spend enough time in any given spot. Maybe next time.
I've lived close to this place for years. Maybe a 20 minute drive or so. I think I'll be going a lot more if not to get out and walk 2.5 miles in a place that is fairly isolated from sights of civilization. There was a slight breeze that kept the temperature feeling good. Yes, hot, but when your out early and your in it as the daytime temp rises, it doesn't feel so bad. I got there around 9:45, and returned to the car at about 12:45. The parking lot was packed when I got there. My car was the last to go.
Since you have an idea of what the petroglyph's look like from before, I think I will show you something else I noticed. And that is how many desert plants are in bloom right now. Perhaps I should have been out there in the spring. Who knows what I would have seen. Oh well. Maybe next year. Enjoy the pics.
